Travel Diary: Exploring the Northern Regions of Pakistan

Preparing for an Adventure

Before setting out on my epic journey through Pakistan's northern regions, I made sure to cover some essential pre-travel preparations:

  • Research and documentation: I conducted in-depth research on the area to make sure I was well-prepared, including learning about visa procedures, trekking permits, and regional customs.
  • Essentials for packing: I brought solid hiking gear, proper clothing for the various temperatures, a good backpack, a first-aid kit, and my dependable camera to record the experience.
  • Accommodation and Transport: In order to guarantee a seamless trip, I made advance reservations for lodging and transportation within the area.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: To have a positive and rewarding travel experience, it was essential to observe local traditions, customs, and dress requirements.

With these preparations in place, I was ready to embark on my unforgettable adventure through the northern regions of Pakistan.

Day 1: Islamabad to Gilgit Baltistan

My journey through Pakistan's north began with a flight into Islamabad. As soon as I arrived, I could already sense the excitement growing. I was going to the gorgeous mountains. After a restful night, I set off on an exhilarating road trip to Gilgit, enjoying stunning views of the Karakoram Highway as it wound next to the great Indus River.

Day 2: Gilgit Baltistan to Hunza Valley

I couldn't help but be in awe of the surrounding peaks, which seemed to reach the sky, as I arrived at Gilgit. My next stop was the Hunza Valley, and the journey there was exciting enough. Small villages and terraced fields could be seen as the route wound past canyons and overhangs. When I arrived in Hunza, the magnificent Baltit Fort welcomed me and served as a reminder of the area's lengthy history.

Day 3: Exploring Hunza Valley

There were countless options for exploration in Hunza. I hiked up to Rakaposhi Base Camp, where I was rewarded with stunning views of the glaciers and Rakaposhi Peak. I took an evening stroll through Karimabad's calm streets while sipping on apricot tea and taking in the city's historic buildings.

Day 4: From Hunza Valley to Skardu

Although the trip from Hunza to Skardu was lengthy and difficult, the scenery was worth every second. It was impressive to see the dazzling Attabad Lake, which was created by a landslide. I was excited to continue exploring as soon as I arrived at Skardu, a city tucked away among the mountains.

Day 5: Skardu and Shangrila Resort

My entry point to several of Pakistan's most known peaks, including K2, was Skardu. I went to the old Skardu Fort and was amazed by its unusual design. The Shangrila Resort, dubbed "Heaven on Earth," offered a calm respite in the afternoon amidst lush gardens and a placid lake.

Day 6: Baltoro Glacier Trek

The high point of my trip was today. I set off on a hike to the Baltoro Glacier, which is encircled by some of the tallest mountains in the world, such as Gasherbrum and Broad Peak. The glacier's immense size humbled me, and the brisk mountain air energized me.

Day 7: Back to Gilgit

I returned to Gilgit after leaving Skardu, enjoying the area's magnificent splendor one last time. I was able to think back on the journey's amazing moments and interactions with the friendly folks.

Day 8: Gilgit to Fairy Meadows

The next leg of my journey took me to Fairy Meadows, so named for its enchanted splendor. The ninetieth-highest peak in the world, Nanga Parbat, was visible from the verdant plains.

Day 9: Hiking to Nanga Parbat Base Camp

After a strenuous climb, I arrived at the Nanga Parbat Base Camp, where I marveled at the imposing massif. Standing at the foot of one of the most treacherous mountains in the world was both humbling and thrilling.

Day 10: Return to Islamabad

I departed the northern areas with reluctance since I knew that this tour had permanently changed my heart. I couldn't help but feel appreciative as I boarded my aircraft back to Islamabad for the stunning scenery and gracious hospitality of the Northern people.

My Best Ever Experience:

It had been an unbelievable trek through the northern parts of Pakistan. I now have a deep appreciation for this amazing region of the world's stunning natural surroundings, voluminous culture, and kind inhabitants. Also read our latest post on Margalla Hills.
